A Messy Desk is One of the Most Annoying Things At Work According to 68% of Office Workers

A recent poll of 2,000 office workers discovered a number of behaviours that colleagues at work find annoying. The survey found that more than half of all colleagues (51%) did not believe excuses given for being late or like colleagues who spend hours on social media sites.

They also dislike smelly foods and mobile ring tones. The findings may not come as a complete surprise to most people as there are a number of common complaints that surfaced in last years Business Environment poll.

A Messy Desk

Here are the top ten most annoying office behaviours:

1. Nearly 68% (67.6%) said they find a messy or disorganised desk a significant distraction during the working day

2. 67% said smelly food at lunch time is one of the most annoying problems that can happen at work. But they also commented that not clearing away dirty dishes can be just as annoying!

3. 65% think long and loud personal telephone calls are unacceptable

4. Two thirds (66.2%) of workers don’t like selfish colleagues that forget to offer to make them a coffee when they make one for themselves

5. Colleagues who spend lots of time on social networks are a nuisance to more than 60% of office workers

6. More than half (51%) of all workers don't want to hear colleague’s “unbelievable” excuses for being late

7. 44% believe the ring tone of their colleagues phone are so annoying they would be prepared to hide it or turn it off whilst they are away from their desk

8. 37% dread the daily question they feel compelled to ask on Mondays and other mornings and also have to think of cool things that they didn't do

9. A third (33.3%) of all those asked told us they really don’t like finding coffee rings on their desk or a bin that has not been emptied by cleaning operatives

10. One in four (26%) said they find not having any milk for their coffee very annoying because it’s been used for breakfast cereal by someone else
